Setting and surroundings

Boston Park Plaza opened on March 10, 1927, as the Statler Hotel Boston, built by hotelier E.M. Statler as part of his Statler Hotels chain. The property was the largest hotel in New England at opening and the first hotel in the United States to put radios and built-in closets in every room. Hilton acquired the Statler chain in 1954 and renamed the property the Statler Hilton in 1958. After Hilton announced plans to close the property in 1976, the Irving M. Saunders family purchased it and renamed it the Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers, beginning a multi-decade Saunders ownership era. The Saunders Hotel Group sold the property to Starwood in 1997. In 2011, Starwood sold to a Highgate / Rockpoint / Saunders partnership for $126 million; in 2013, that partnership sold to Sunstone Hotel Investors REIT for $250 million, retaining Highgate as operator. Sunstone completed a $100 million renovation in 2016, after which AAA awarded the property Four Diamond status. In November 2023 the property was sold and rebranded Hilton Boston Park Plaza, the current operating identity. The hotel offers 1,060 guest rooms plus 55 suites at 50 Park Plaza in the heart of downtown Boston, one block from the Boston Public Garden. The conference and meetings program totals over 70,000 square feet of flexible function space across 40 meeting rooms (Cvent figure), supporting groups from 10 to 2,200 attendees. The largest single bookable space, the combined Grand Ballroom A & B, runs 13,140 square feet. Grand Ballroom B (the second-largest single space) runs 8,477 square feet. Avenue 34, an industrial-chic event space added in the 2016 renovation, runs over 7,000 square feet and divides into three sections (The Loft, Studio 1, Studio 2). The Square is a second industrial-chic event space; a junior ballroom and 30 additional conference rooms round out the inventory. Per-configuration capacities for individual rooms beyond aggregate property-wide figures sit behind the meetings desk. The Saunders Castle at Park Plaza, a stand-alone special-event venue adjacent to or affiliated with the hotel, provides additional banquet capacity through a separate Cvent listing. Boston Park Plaza sits at 50 Park Plaza, ~3 miles from Boston Logan International (BOS, ~10 to 15 minutes by car via the Sumner Tunnel, international hub). The MBTA Green Line Arlington Station is one block from the property; Boylston Station is ~3 minutes'' walk; South Station (Amtrak Northeast Corridor / Acela; MBTA Commuter Rail) is ~10 minutes by car. The Logan Express Back Bay terminal connects directly to BOS. Practical alternates include T.F. Green / Providence (PVD, ~55 miles, domestic hub) and Manchester-Boston Regional (MHT, ~55 miles, regional). The property is the most public-transit-accessible Massachusetts venue in this directory.
